The Owl House moved to Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, over the winter and our new venue includes a lounge, bar, dining and outdoor area. Designed by Studio Y in Melbourne, and brought to life by Creative works Australia, the new Owl House provides a cosmopolitan venue that focuses on high quality, locally sourced ingredients, and a cutting-edge cocktail and wine list that encapsulates the best of Sydney’s contemporary gastronomy approach.

Owner and sommelier, Amir Halpert, cut his teeth in the high-end New York restaurant and bar scene, translating his experience to suit the Sydney environment. He opened the original Owl house in 2011: in a small Crown Street terrace. It rapidly became an award winning bar and restaurant, known for its innovative cuisine, cocktails, and wine list. Our aim was always to generate a contemporary environment, with a multiculturally diverse menu. Our new place will continue and expand on that vision. Ever the innovator, Amir, who has been a Bitcoin evangelist since the movement's early days, has also partnered with local startup, Incent, to reward his patrons with crypto-currency in a reward system embedded into each payment.

Chef Stevin Djie has followed the path of many in our best restaurants: Originally a kitchen hand, his drive, passion, and singular focus has turned him into a chef with a portfolio that spans European, Asian, and Middle Eastern cuisine, whilst retaining a commitment to a “made from scratch”, and environmentally considered approach.

The Owl House is committed to providing the best products we can find, and so when we don’t make our own, we source from Sydney’s best. We are serving Little Marionette coffee; bread and bagels from Tin Pin Organic bakery; and our butter is from Pepe Saya.

Our avant-garde menu is designed for affordability, and flexibility: where quality ingredients are paramount. Lunch offerings include Labne and Hummus plates, in addition to sandwiches and terrines. The dinner menu is refreshingly reworked, with signature dishes, a la carte, and the degustation. And the weekend Brunch menu will an ever-changing menu: based on seasonality and our core approach to food.

Our fully licensed venue has more than 200 spirits and liqueurs, and close to a 100-strong wine list. We have local craft beers, including those made by our neighbour Sam at the East Sydney Hotel. We have also introduced two house wines on tap: a red and white by renowned winemaker Alex Retief of Sydney’s Urban Winery. Of course, our famous cocktail program is ever expanding to allow for lunch, dinner and an exciting new list for the weekend brunch.

At the The Owl House, Hospitality is our unified focus: good food, quality service in a comfortable environment. Whether you are in the mood lunch, drinks and snacks after work, or our full dining experience - you will always be welcomed, and we will strive to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. And we will always look forward to welcoming you back.
